Our Forest School

We believe that nature is one of the most powerful classrooms a young child can experience. Our Forest School programme is a child led outdoor learning experience built on the firm belief that children learn best by doing. By making the most of our natural environment, we create daily opportunities for children to explore at their own pace, test their ideas, and develop a deep sense of wonder about the world around them.

The Programme

Our outdoor spaces have been specially developed to bring the magic of the wilderness directly into the nursery setting. Every child from the age of two benefits from our on-site outdoor programme, gaining hands-on experience with nature every single week.

Once the children turn three, they can take their adventures even further by participating in our weekly offsite Forest School sessions. These excursions usually take place in the afternoon, allowing the older children to experience larger natural woodland environments. Every session is led by our specialist staff who are fully qualified and trained in Forest School education, ensuring that the children are safely guided as they build a deeper connection with the great outdoors.

The Schedule

Because our Elsie Marshall site operates as both a forest school and a traditional nursery, we are able to offer a unique level of flexibility. Parents have the option to combine full forest school days with full nursery days to create the perfect balance for their child.

If your child attends three days a week, you might choose to dedicate one day to Forest School and two days to the main nursery. This fluid approach gives children the best of both worlds, allowing them a much wider range of access to different learning styles and nursery activities.

Benefits of Outdoor Play

Our carefully structured outdoor programme supports children as they grow into confident, capable individuals. Through our regular sessions, the children naturally learn to develop in several key areas:

- Building inner confidence
- Becoming independent learners
- Navigating risk safely
- Fostering creativity and problem solving
- Developing resilience and communication
